Broadcast Journalism

WINS Radio and CBS News

I began writing for broadcast news at WINS Radio in Manhattan, New York. From there, I went to CBS Network News. I was fortunate enough to have written and/or produced for some of the giants of radio and TV News, including Douglas Edwards, Dan Rather, Charles Osgood, Bob Schieffer, Christopher Glenn and others. I covered Presidential elections, tragedies like the crash of TWA Flight 800, sensational court trials like that of OJ Simpson, terrible earthquakes, famines, and uprisings like the one in Tienanmen Square for which I earned a Peabody award.

My novel, Tinder and Coal, will bring the reader back to an earlier decade -- the 70s, and to the people, places, social, cultural and political issues of the time that influence the major character’s thinking on religion, racism, drugs, music and sexual freedom and identity.

Bob Schieffer liked to draw on his scripts during radio broadcasts.

I loved those sketches!
