Poetry, Memoir and Creative Nonfiction
My first published poem (many years ago) was for the journal, Hoofstrikes. “Elegy for a Ruffian” is about horse racing, a sport to which I am vehemently opposed. During the years I taught English or pursued a broadcasting career, I put my creative writing on hold. I’ve recently returned to writing poetry as well as prose. A memoir about my mother is published in the inaugural anthology of “The Writer’s Journal: Live & Learn” (December, 2024); A flash memoir piece, “Maria,” is published in Bright Flash Literary Review (August, 2024); “My Grandfather Fishing” is online at The Sunlight Press (April, 2024); “Inclemency” is published at One Art Poetry (March, 2024); “Jigsaw” is in Front Porch Review (July, 2023); “Zero Sum Game” is published online in Still Point Arts Quarterly ( Summer 2023); “Mater Terra” is in Poetica Magazine (2023); “Lament” can be read online at Two Hawks Quarterly (Spring, 2022) Other poems have appeared in the anthologies, Trees in a Garden of Ashes, “To A Newborn, 2020” and Pennsylvania Bards Northeast Poetry Review 2020, “At Laurel Hill Cemetery”.
